Natalie Hernandez has over 15 years of experience in healthcare administration. She joined Sutter Health in August 2006 as a member of the Revenue Cycle team for the Sacramento Sierra Region. She currently holds the position of senior contract coordinator in the Managed Care Department at the Sutter Health System Office. Her professional background also includes experience as a lead contract liaison, patient financial advocate and denial variance representative.
Natalie grew up in San Jose, California and experienced the loss of her father, a respected high-school teacher and PE coach, at an early age. This devastating loss and the challenges associated with losing income and health insurance was her first experience with the health care system. This experience and the compassionate providers involved in her father’s care led her on a personal mission to enhance the well-being of patients and participate in the development of support services within communities with emphasis on compassion and excellence in health care.
Natalie has managed Accounts Receivables resulting in successful AR day reduction and acted in a lead role through the 2014 EPIC transition. Natalie has also worked in Patient Advocacy with her highest achievements featured in the Paula Peach video spotlighting Sutter Health’s Patient Financial Advocates and Charity Care program. She was also awarded the 2013 4th Quarter Sutter Spirit Award for going above and beyond by showing respect, consideration and compassion for others.
Natalie has played an active role in HFMA since becoming a member in 2014. She was the volunteer coordinator for the 2014-2015 spring and fall conferences and assists in generating new ideas and membership. Natalie is a dedicated long distance runner and accomplished her personal goal of completing her first half-marathon last year. She volunteers and competes in local running events to raise money for multiple charitable organizations.
